Inexpensive/Unique gifts for horselovers

by Laurel Hair
(Kirkland, WA)

I like to be creative with my gifts to anyone, including horselovers. Here are some ideas:
* Have your child draw a picture of the giftees horse or any horse they may like, from a picture you may have, add a little watercolor accent and frame in a second hand rustic frame.
* Scour garage sales, thrift shops, antique shops in small rural towns, etc. for old horse gear that can be made into an art piece, hung up on a wall, or made into unique piece of jewelry. Also good places to find gently used western clothing.
* Use same idea above to make a unique gift basket with a scarf, old spurs, hand drawn picture of horse, horse quote handwritten on old paper in calligraphy, etc. Be creative and think of the person receiving the gift.
* Have someone with excellent fancy handwriting, write a horse poem on old looking paper (from Michaels craft store), slightly burn the edges and frame.
* Handmake a bracelet or necklace with horse or western charms from Michaels or a craft store.
* Old Western videos and/or movies that feature a lot of horses, such as "The Horse Whisperer", "Black Beauty", "Dreamer", "Flicka", "National Velvet", etc.
* Use same idea above for books
*Combine any of the above into a nice gift basket
* Gift certificate for a foot or regular massage, always appreciated by anyone who does sports!
* Gift basket with massage goodies in it. Towel with horse motif, horse shaped soap, lotion, etc.
That's it for now, more to come later......
